But once you get past the pretty faces, you'll find a series with fast-paced intrigue and action, mixed with high melodrama. Weiss Kreuz is German for "White Cross", which in turn is the code name for a gang of four assassins in this latest serving of shonen anime geared towards a female audience. These impossibly good-looking young men pose as florists by day and are fearless "Hunters of the Dark" at night. There is Aya, the cold-hearted, brooding leader of the White Cross and Youji, the fun-loving playboy of the group. Rounding out the cast are Ken, the fierce, hot-headed fighter and Omi, the cute little guy custom designed to draw in the female viewers. Incredibly popular with fan-girls, this series goes into detail about their various missions, their relationships with each other, and the dark, tragic pasts requisite for such good-looking male anime characters. Featuring several hit songs, such as "Velvet Underworld", and "Beautiful Alone", there's nothing uncool about Weiss Kreuz. It has the handsome bishounen male leads, a pop soundtrack, good plot development, and lots of villains to hate (or love).
