Meet Tenchi Masaki and his wacky alien household in Tenchi Muyo! From its beginnings as an OAV series, the Tenchi Muyo Universe has expanded to encompass two television series, three movies, and a spin-off series. Although the story changes slightly in each universe, Tenchi is always the central character, surrounded by a cast of flipped-out women, from a newly-awakened sleeping princess to the world's cutest mad scientist!
In the OAVs, we meet Tenchi, an ordinary Earthling whose life changes drastically when he accidentally releases the demon Ryoko from her 700 year imprisonment. She decides to take out her anger on the hapless Tenchi, but later settles on invading his household and staying on as a permanent guest. Questions about Tenchi's mysterious ancestry are raised with the arrival of Aeka and Sasami, princesses of the planet Jurai. Problems escalate when the genius scientist Washu and Galaxy Policewomen Mihoshi and Kiyone make their entrance. Soon, Tenchi's quiet home is filled with girls who all seem to be in love with him - when they aren't causing havoc and getting into highly destructive arguments! And throughout the chaos, Tenchi discovers the hidden secrets of his parentage, his powers, and his destiny. In the television series, Tenchi is again drawn into a world of adventure, magic, and giant spaceships. Different villains are introduced and the girls have different reasons for latching onto the Masaki household, but the show always retains its fun combination of humor, fantasy, and action! Its popularity has even created a spin-off TV and OAV series - the Pretty Sammy show, which features Sasami as a trasnforming "magical girl" who fights evil. The Tenchi Muyo Universe is among the most well-known and successful in the anime world and will continue to be, with its great artwork, unusual characters, and exciting storylines!
