In the course of the series, Otaru wakens two more marionettes - Cherry and Bloodberry - and they are different from regular marionettes in that they possess the special "maiden circuit," which acts like a heart and allows them to feel emotions. He is immediately attracted to Haruko Akagi, but she's only interested in basketball players ... namely Kaede Rukawa. Sakuragi decides to join the team to get Haruko to like him - even though he sucks at the game! However, after several games, he finds that he really does enjoy playing basketball, and begins to play for the team in earnest. The other members of the Shohoku team are: small forward Rukawa, point guard Ryota Miyagi, shooting guard Hisashi Mitsui, center/captain Takenori Akagi (who is also Haruko's big brother), and Kiminobu Kogure, co-captin and forward. Although they argue (a lot) amongst themselves and get into fights, the Shohoku members learn lessons in loyalty, compassion, teamwork, and dedication throughout the course of the series. There she meets an assortment of gods, monsters, and friends as she is gradually assimilated into the hectic, boisterous world of the baths. Yu-Baba renames her "Sen" and seals away her true name, gaining more power over her as each memory of her real life slips away. Although she entered the world apathetic and helpless, Sen slowly finds the strength in herself required to break the boundaries between the worlds and return home.
