Ranma Saotome’s life is simple: he’s got one BIG problem and countless little ones! During a martial arts training trip in China with his father Genma, Ranma’s life is changed forever! He falls into one of the legendary "Cursed Springs of Jusenkyo" -- the Spring of the Drowned Young Girl -- and discovers he changes into a young woman every time he’s splashed with cold water! Meanwhile, his father falls into another Cursed Spring and becomes a bamboo-crunching panda.
To make matters worse, Genma drags Ranma (kicking and screaming) back to Japan to visit his old friend Soun Tendo. Genma and Soun reunite joyfully and reveal their long-held pact -- to join their families and dojos through marriage ... meaning Ranma’s marriage to one of the three Tendo girls! It's either the pretty, motherly Kasumi, the sarcastic, money-grubbing Nabiki, or the cute tomboy Akane. With great reluctance (not to mention heated arguing and extreme acts of violence) Ranma and Akane become engaged.
Ranma’s troubles don’t end there! With such an unusual curse, Ranma makes the Tendo household the site of daily battles, rampaging martial artists looking for revenge, and general destruction and mayhem. Visitors from Ranma's past include the Chinese Amazon Shampoo - a blue-haired vision who is initally determined to hunt Ranma down, but is later determined to drag him to the altar! Accompanying Shampoo is her ancient great-grandmother, Cologne, and her sight-impaired, lovesick suitor, Mousse. The directionless Ryoga Hibiki is another fighter seeking retribution, while the wizened pervert, Happosai just seeks girls' lacy underthings. And amidst all the chaos, the unpredictable relationship between Ranma and his "uncute" fiancé grows into one of the most popular romances in anime.
