Patlabor    In the future, the use of highly advanced robots known as "labors" for crime is on the increase. To combat them the National Police Agency created the Special Vehicle Second Commands (SV2), also known as patrol labors, or "Patlabor." Of the two SV2s, the Second Unit is a ragtag bunch of officers who are always underestimated, despite the fact that they possess the most sophisticated labors available - the AV-98 Ingrams. However, this does mean that every rival company to the maker of their labors has targeted them to test out their own new toys. The Second Unit is comprised of a medley of characters, from the leader Kiichi Goto, a man who enjoys betting on horse races, Noa Izumi, a cheerful redhead who names her labor "Alphonse," and Asuma Shinohara, a young man who just happens to be the son of the president of Shinohara Heavy Industries - the same manufacturers of the Ingrams! This series blends great mecha design, action, humor, and even a hint of romance to make one of the more popular anime in the US!

Patlabor was originally a 7-part OAV series, which then spawned 47 TV episodes, 16 more OAVs, and 2 movies. For more information:

Porco Rosso (The Crimson Pig)    The setting is the late 1920's in Italy. The notorious Porco Rosso - bounty hunter and seaplane pilot extraordinaire - flies the skies above the Adriatic Sea. Once known as Marco Pagott, a pilot for the Italian Army, Porco became disillusioned with the war and cursed himself to become a pig. He spends his days in his small, peaceful island in the Adriatic ... until the Italian government begins hunting him down as an outlaw! Trouble escalates with the arrival of the Air Pilates Alliance, a gang of ruffians and cowards who see Porco as their main rival. However, Porco, ever the good-hearted gentleman, doesn't want to fight. But when he must protect his dear friends and his beloved plane, Porco won't pull any punches! This is another breath-taking, humorous Studio Ghibli film with beautiful flying sequences and scenes of old-time Italy.

Porco Rosso, like the other Studio Ghibli films, has been picked up by Disney, but the release date has not yet been set.

Pretear    Loosely based on the fairy tale "Snow White," Pretear follows Himeno, an ordinary teenager whose father, a washed-up writer, remarries a woman wealthy enough to own an entire island. Suddenly Himeno finds herself in a new school, with a new family ... but she's not exactly happy - her father is too wrapped up with his new wife, and her step-sisters take turns ignoring and embarassing her. Things change drastically when she meets the Leafe Knights, seven young men whose purpose is to guard the Leafe (life energy) of the world. They announce that she is the Pretear, the legendary girl who can merge with each of the Knights and use their combined powers to fight off the evil Disaster Queen Fenryl before she absorbs all the Leafe in the world. Although the series isn't exactly original, the animation and character designs are eye candy. And with seven Knights to "merge" with, there's bound to be romance and love triangles galore! If you like shoujo anime, this is one you can't miss!

Pretear is a 13-part OAV series. To find out more:

Project A-ko    Get ready for some classic anime weirdness and non-stop action as you meet Eiko Magami aka A-ko! She's super strong and needs to wear protective wristbands to keep her violent tendencies in check. Her rival is the intelligent, rich, and beautiful Biiko Daitokuji aka B-ko. They are constantly fighting over who gets to be Shiiko Kotobuki's (C-ko) "best friend." C-ko turns out to be a cute alien princess, but that doesn't faze either A-ko or B-ko as they cause more property damage than the invading aliens intent on reclaiming their princess! This hilarious anime is full of anime in-jokes, random mayhem, and plenty of panty shots, so be prepared!

There are 4 Project A-ko movies released in the US. To find out more:
