Anime Clubs and Events
Everyone here at Japanimation.com still remembers the days of our youth when we were in high school. Back then, our anime clubs had pitiful amounts of stuff to show. One staff member reminisces that he only had Akira and Robo Carnival to watch back in his high school Otaku Club. These days, everything from small school clubs to worldwide conventions are being formed all in the name of promoting anime to the masses.
The more mainstream society recognizes that anime is not just kids' cartoons, the better our chances are for uncensored, uncut anime making it over here to America. Just about every knows the catastrophe that was Escaflowne on Fox Kids. The studio execs over at Fox thought that little kids wouldn't be ready for the mature themes in the series, so they cut out a lot of the vital stuff in Escaflowne. In many ways, they were right; little kids are not ready for the ideas of sacrifice, death, and cross dressing found in Escaflowne. Big kids are. Big kids with lots of money to spend. Big kids that can be a lucrative market for these studios if they realize that anime is not always for kids.
